Originally an area of small clearings used to cultivate oats, Les Avenières was suddenly pushed into the limelight one fine summer’s afternoon in 1904.
A melancholy young American woman was walking on the slopes of the Salève with some friends when she was suddenly struck by the exceptional beauty of the view. She made her decision there and then.
She would build a shrine dedicated to her younger sister, who had died at an early age.
